Skills development and beekeeping products
Training program for women in Muyunda, Zambia – Creation of beehives, honey products, and financial literacy
Area — Women's empowerment
Beneficiaries — 300 women
Through a skills development program related to honey production, a group of women from Muyunda in Zambia are learning to create beehives, harvest honey when mature and producing candles, soaps and wax crayons for children from nearby schools. Zambia is a honey country where there are more than 6,000 beekeepers harvesting more than 600 tonnes of honey and about 100 tonnes of beeswax annually.
The support of Monde par la Main/ Give a Hand to this project will enable women from Muyunda, Kazungula district in Zambia to develop new skills related to honey and wax harvesting in order to manufacture products such as candles, soaps and crayons and market these products in Zambia.
Partnership between Give a Hand and the Butterfly Tree Charity
The partnership between The Butterfly Tree Charity and Monde par la Main/ Give a Hand was established in 2016 after a first project together aiming to provide textbooks for children so they can participate adequately at the ministry tests. We quickly acknowledged the great work led by Mrs. Jane Kaye-Bailey in the field in Zambia and wished to continue our partnership with them. We are proud to support The Butterfly Tree Charity in Zambia; these projects genuinely change the lives of thousands in this region that is often heavily affected by famine and drought.
Running The Butterfly Tree and working in Zambia has been a life-changing experience for me. I have a great affection for these people who have so little, and yet they are mostly happy
Butterfly Tree Charity
The Butterfly Tree Charity organization was founded in 2006 by Mrs. Jane Kaye Bailey in order to provide support to the many orphaned children living in the rural areas of Zambia where thousands of people were decimated by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The organization implements water sanitation programs, feeding programs, infrastructure improvements, healthcare and education programs as well as women empowerment programs.
